The hum of fluorescent lights buzzed softly above as Evelyn rearranged a stack of notebooks on the long table in front of her. The archaeology department’s lab was quieter than usual, save for the occasional rustle of paper or the tapping of Rue’s fingers on her laptop. The room smelled faintly of dust and old books, a scent Evelyn usually found comforting. Today, though, it did little to calm the unease that lingered after the dig site drama.
